Do YOU believe in magic?
My experience with White Rabbit Books & Curiosities will possibly seem fairly mundane compared to others, namely those who feel an affinity toward and/or connection with magic, fairies, etc. – which I decidedly do not. Curious in itself perhaps.
A few years ago, I was living in Durango and often walked/jogged/cycled the River Trail. One day I came upon this bookshop, and it looked so interesting and inviting I decided to step inside. Given the relatively small space, I at first thought wow, claustrophobia is going to set in any minute now. But with the soaring ceilings, open door, windows, whatever. . . it never did. Keena greeted me and allowed me to peruse the offerings at my own pace and personal space, and I was amazed that there were so many choices of both recently published and more 'time worn' books that fit exactly with my reading preferences. And when I saw the prices, handwritten in pencil, individually according to book, I thought, how can this be? Have I gone into an alternate bookstore dimension? (Ok wait, that's right, I'm not supposed to engage in fantasy, lol). Not sure how many books I bought that day, but I felt like I had found a pot of gold (there I go with magic again!). After several more visits, and some thoroughly enjoyable and interesting conversations with the owner Keena, (including recommendations both from and to her which proved to be spot-on), I couldn't stop telling people about this find.
Unfortunately, I eventually moved out of town, and for a variety of reasons my opportunities to return have been limited. But I am so very happy to continue to maintain connection with the shop and Keena herself via Facebook and email, and will always wish her the best of luck with any and all professional and/or personal adventures she may pursue. I truly hope to visit in person again before too long and will bring an empty pot (or at least tote bag) to fill with the gold that surely will again be discovered there. ~ Karen Hughes- Dolores, Colorado
